The Urantia Book. Paper Energy—Mind and Matter. () THE foundation of the universe is material in the sense that energy is the basis of all existence, and pure energy is controlled by the Universal Father. Force, energy, is the one thing which stands as an everlasting monument demonstrating and proving the existence and presence of the Universal Absolute. 40 UNIT 2: WHAT IS MATTER? THE CUNY HSE CURRICULUM FRAMEWORK • SCIENCE unit • 2 lesson • Handout: Is it Matter? • Reading: Matter has Mass and Volume • 2 balloons of the same size • Tape • Yardstick or ruler LESSON STEPS Give the quiz. 1 Ask students to work on it by themselves, without consulting notes, for a few minutes.

This unit acquaints students with the types of energy that people rely on and how they are generated and used. Nine energy resources are compared: crude oil, coal, natural gas, nuclear power, biomass, solar, wind, hydroelectric, and geothermal. Students will learn that there are benefits and drawbacks to using each resource. We talked about how energy is used in the school, where the energy comes from, and how it gets into the school. This was all leading up to a "school energy tour." Mr Taylor, the school's caretaker, was kind enough to take us into the boiler room and other areas of the school to show us where we could find the school's energy sources.

Properties of Matter. By focusing on the conceptual issues faced by nineteenth century physicists, this book clarifies the status of field theory, the ether, and thermodynamics in the work of the period. A remarkably synthetic account of a difficult and fragmentary period in scientific development.

A great deal of heat energy comes from the Sun's light hitting Earth. Other sources include geothermal energy, friction, and even living things. This unit helps students understand what heat energy is, how it is transferred, how it is measured, and how insulation can keep heat in or out.

The Earth-Sun-Moon System Unit Anchoring Phenomenon: Celestial objects appear to move in distinct patterns from Earth. Storyline: Patterns of the apparent motion of the sun, the moon, and stars in the sky can be described, predicted, and explained with models.

Develop your own model of the Earth-sun-moon system, using it to create a film that explains the cyclic patterns of lunar phases. You will need to check with your teacher about what pages to review.

We will not study every chapter from this text in fifth grade. Unit C has some info on the water cycle, Unit B is on ecosystems, Unit D is on weather, Unit E has both matter and heat transfer, and Unit F.
